The Last Judgment

1050-1150
Fresco
Filialkirche St. Rupert, Weisspriach/Lungau, Austria

This church's only representation of the Last Judgment focuses on the fate of the unjust. The angel is the large figure left of the center of the image with the sword in his right hand. With his left he pushes the crowd of sinners forward. In the foreground of the crowd are a bishop, king, and pope. The bishop and king are tied to each other at the hands. On the far right, the damned boil in what the sacristan identified to us as a traditional pot for making cheese. Just to the left of the pot, a devil squeezes two lovers between his thighs.

On the far left is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
